Now we must ponder over how to make proper use of unfavorable situations. The reason for sorrow is desire for happiness. Sorrow comes only due to having expectations. Unfavorable situations cause displeasure, when there is a desire for pleasure and happiness. If we are alert and careful and we renounce the desire for favorable situations, and hope of pleasure, then we cannot experience sorrow in unfavorable situations. In other words, there is no sorrow in unfavorable situations. The unfavorable situations are incapable of causing any displeasure, pain and suffering.
