Not Me, Not Mine

Phalgun Shukla Dashami, Vikram Samvat 2074, Ravivaar

Tell your friends,  that they should keep reminding you that this is God.   Make one such friend, that will keep reminding you.   Between yourselves, encourage and support each other.  If likes and dislikes creep in, then become alarmed,  become alert.   Simply by reminding there will be immense benefit,  and a great favor ! Remembrance of God is the kind to destroy all adversities ‒

‘हरिस्मृतिः सर्वविपद्विमोक्षणम्’ (श्रीमद्भा ८ । १० । ५५) ।

‘Harismrutih Sarva-vipadvi-mokshanam’

(Srimad Bhagwad 8/10/55)

He only is a genuine friend,  who makes you remember God.

Saints, best of men, our well-wishing mother, father, and well-wishing friend, are those only who remind us about God.  The qualities of a true friend are shown as follows ‒

Papannivaarayati yojayate hitaaya, guhyaani guhati gunaan prakateekaroti |

aapadgatam cha na jahaati dadaati kaale, sanmitralakshanmidam pravadanti santah || (Bhartarihneetishatak 73)

‘Saints reveal the following characteristics of a good friend, saying that they prevent the friend from commiting a sin,  they engage him in work that is for his supreme good, they keep their secrets in tact, they bring out his best qualities, they do not leave him in difficult times, and durng such times, they give money and other things.’

Genuine Satsang in other words, association with Truth is ‒ God is remembered.  God is ‘Sat’ (Existence), and remembering Him is ‘satsang’.   Simply remember that one point –  that God IS, by this simple act, the feelings will be purified.   An artist first draws lines, then colors within those lines.  In the same way,  by remembering God the lines have been drawn.   It is not something ordinary to remember God.  One cannot accomplish as much by doing japa all the time, as by remembering God.
