– Chapter 1 –
Due to worldly attachments, a person becomes confused thinking – “What should I do and what should I not do?” and neglects their duties. Hence, one should not come under the sway of worldly attachment or the desire (infatuation) for pleasure.
– Chapter 2 –
This body ‘sharir’ is perishable, but the one who knows this body ‘shariri’ is imperishable. By giving importance to this understanding and performing one’s duties, worry and sorrow can be eliminated through either of these approaches.
– Chapter 3 –
Simpy by diligently performing one’s duties selflessly, for the welfare of others, one attains well-being.
– Chapter 4 –
There are two ways to be freed from the bondage of actions – by understanding the essence of karma (action) and performing selfless actions, and by realizing true knowledge (tattvagyan).
– Chapter 5 –
When faced with favorable or unfavorable situations, one should not become happy or sorrowful, because, a person who is affected by these cannot rise above worldly matters to experience supreme bliss.
– Chapter 6 –
Through any spiritual practice, equanimity of the inner senses should be achieved. Without equanimity, a man cannot become entirely free from all disturbances.
– Chapter 7 –
The supreme path is to accept that everything is God alone.
– Chapter 8 –
The soul’s journey after death is determined by one’s final thoughts. Therefore one should always remember (smaran) God while performing their duties, ensuring that God’s remembrance remains at the end.
– Chapter 9 –
All human beings are eligible to attain God, regardless of their caste, stage in life, tradition (sect), country, or appearance.
– Chapter 10 –
Wherever one sees extraordinariness, excellence, beauty, greatness, wisdom, strength etc., consider it as God’s manifestation and meditate upon God.
– Chapter 11 –
By recognizing that this world itself is the divine form of God, every person can behold the Universal form of the Lord (Viraat Swaroop)
– Chapter 12 –
The devotee who surrenders their body, senses, mind, intellect, and entire being to God, becomes dear to God.
– Chapter 13 –
In this world the only thing truly worth knowing is the Supreme Essence (Paramatma tattva). By realizing this, one attains immortality.
– Chapter 14 –
To break free from worldly bondage, it is necessary to transcend the three qualities – Sattva (goodness), Rajas (activity, passion), Tamas (ignorance). Through unwavering (single-minded, exclusive) devotion, a person transcends these three qualities.
– Chapter 15 –
The ultimate foundation and praiseworthy supreme being of this world is one Supreme Soul (Paramatma). Accepting this whole-heartedly, one should worship Him with exclusive devotion.
– Chapter 16 –
It is due to bad qualities and misconduct that a person falls into the cycle of 8.4 million life forms and hells experiencing suffering. To escape the cycle of birth and death, it is indispensable to renounce bad qualities and misconduct.
– Chapter 17 –
Whatever auspicious work a person does with faith, it should commence by remembering God and chanting His holy name.
– Chapter 18 –
The essence of all the scriptures is the Vedas; the essence of the Vedas is Upanishads, and the essence of the Upanishads is the Gita, and the essence of the Gita is surrender to God ‘sharanagati’. Whoever wholeheartedly surrenders to God (with a firm resolve, exclusively takes refuge in God), is freed from all sins by God.
