Gita on Nature according to one’s Social Order and Self Made Nature

||ShriHari||

(2) Nature According to One’s Social Order:-

This sort of personal nature is decided by birth according to a person’s social order-priest class, warrior class, trading class and labour class. This nature is not faulty and sinful. The nature of the members of four social orders is different according to their duties (actions). There is naturally purity in actions such as eating (food) and living of the members of the priest class. The members of the warrior class naturally possess fearlessness, valour and steadiness in battle and generosity in bestowing gifts. The members of the trading class have a natural inclination to agriculture, rearing of cows and business while those of the labour class are naturally inclined to render service to the members of other classes. If this sort of nature is not found among the members of different social orders, it is because of the bad company they keep. Therefore a person should always keep good company and renounce the bad one.

This sort of nature has been described in detail in the eighteenth chapter of the Gita (18/42-48, 59-60). It means that a person should perform his prescribed duty scrupulously according to his social order, ordained by the scriptures without expecting’ any reward and should also renounce bad company totally. By doing so a man naturally attains salvation’

(3) Self-made Nature:-

A man’s nature is decided by the books he studies, the company he keeps and the environment he lives in. It means that prescribed actions, good company and pious environment or conduct improve a man’s nature while forbidden actions, bad company and evil environment or conduct spoil his nature (I6/1-18). The Lord has laid great emphasis on the improvement of this sort of nature in the Gita several times (3/30,34; 16/21,24 etc.). Every one is free and powerful in purifying or in spoiling this nature. Therefore a person should always be careful in purifying his nature carefully. The success of human life consists in it.
